Recommendations By Use - Landscape / Scenery Viewing

To achieve the best results in this application high power is essential to see detail at long distance.

For prolonged use a 12x50 is the maximum that most people can comfortably used as a hand held instrument. However, many people claim they can comfortably use 16x50 or 20x50 but brightness and field of view are compromised for the extra power. A good model to consider as a hand held binocular if extra power is required would be a zoom such as an 8-20x50.

Tripod mounting is recommended where possible for this type of application, allowing higher magnifications to be used and larger objective lenses i.e. binoculars that would be difficult to use hand held. Recommended models include 15x70 and 20x80.

Alternatively consider a spotting scope with variable magnification of 20x upwards. If coupled with a shoulder support or chest pod this could be considered as a high power hand held option.
